Recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation (the National Standardization Administration) approved the release of 338 important national standards. Among them are 15 mandatory national standards and 323 recommended national standards, involving high-tech fields, traditional industries, production safety, people's daily lives, and other areas.

The 338 standards give Chinese purchasers, testers and product developers new reference points for AI medical devices, display equipment, optoelectronic components and marine equipment. European suppliers seeking Chinese sales or Chinese manufacturing partnerships may need to align product documentation, testing and quality-control processes with these specifications. The 15 mandatory standards, including vehicle and marine-fuel requirements, could create nearer-term compliance exposure for EU fuel, automotive and shipping-related firms operating in China.
The stakes
If these standards become embedded in procurement, certification and supply-chain qualification, China can shape technical baselines in markets where European firms compete. The effect is far smaller if the standards remain domestic guidance with limited enforcement or market uptake.
