China's cumulative installed wind and solar power capacity exceeds 2 billion kilowatts
我国风光累计装机容量突破20亿千瓦
China's new energy development has taken solid steps. From January to September this year, newly added installed capacity of wind power and solar power generation was approximately 170 million kilowatts. As of the end of September 2026, the cumulative installed capacity of wind power and solar power generation reached 2.01 billion kilowatts, of which solar power installed capacity was 1.31 billion kilowatts, a…

The mechanism
The National Energy Administration reports 170 GW of wind and solar added between January and September, taking China's fleet to 2.01 TW. That pace tells EU solar module buyers and wind OEMs such as Vestas and Nordex how much Chinese factory output the home market absorbed. Where domestic additions lag production, surplus modules and turbines are priced into export markets, although the release gives no output figures to test this. With wind and solar covering 64% of new demand, China needs less gas-fired power, which eases its competition with EU utilities for LNG cargoes.
The stakes
If wind and solar keep meeting about two-thirds of China's demand growth, its fossil import needs flatten while its equipment makers keep the scale that sets the price EU producers face. A sustained rebound in coal-fired generation would weaken both effects.
How it reaches Europe
- NEA publishes nine-month capacity dataOfficial figures show 170 GW added and wind and solar meeting 64% of new demand.
- Domestic absorption of equipment gaugedInstallations indicate how much Chinese module and turbine output stays at home rather than seeking export buyers.
- Export pricing pressure adjustsAssumption: output not absorbed domestically is offered abroad, so slower additions would lower export prices.
- Chinese fossil import demand moderatesRenewables covering most incremental demand reduce the call on gas-fired and imported fuel generation.
- EU manufacturers and LNG buyers affectedEU module and turbine makers face Chinese price levels while EU utilities compete with fewer Chinese LNG bids.
