Mandatory National Standard for "Limits of Dimensions, Axle Loads and Masses for Motor Vehicles, Trailers and Combination Vehicles" Released
《汽车、挂车及汽车列车外廓尺寸、轴荷及 质量限值》强制性国家标准发布
Recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation (National Standardization Administration) approved and released the mandatory national standard "Limits of Dimensions, Axle Loads and Masses for Motor Vehicles, Trailers and Combination Vehicles" (GB 1589—2026), which will take effect on July 1, 2027.

The mechanism
GB 1589—2026 changes the Chinese design envelope for commercial vehicles from July 2027. China-bound truck and trailer models can accommodate protruding radar, cameras and V2X antennas more easily, while battery-heavy vehicles gain an extra 1,000kg of permitted load on a single axle with single tyres. European commercial-vehicle makers face revised Chinese vehicle-engineering and validation requirements; the benefit depends on their having China-facing models or local production.
The stakes
The standard links connected-vehicle hardware, battery packaging and freight efficiency to China’s baseline vehicle rules, potentially making Chinese specifications more influential in commercial-vehicle design. It matters far less if European manufacturers already use separate China-compliant platforms and the revised limits do not alter vehicle procurement economics.
How it reaches Europe
- China releases GB 1589—2026The national standard sets revised vehicle dimensions, axle-load and mass limits.
- Limits change vehicle packaging rulesThe text exempts specified sensing and communication components and raises one single-axle limit.
- China-facing models require reassessmentManufacturers need to verify that vehicle layouts fit the new permitted configurations.
- EU commercial-vehicle makers face altered costsThis follows if they sell or manufacture affected trucks, trailers or components for China.
